Macro view of a mechanical watch movement: gears, jewelled bearings and the balance wheel in cool steel light.
The same movement redrawn as a luminous blueprint: gears and screws in fine line-work, stars set where the jewels sit and arrows tracing its motion.

04 — Custom Technology Solutions

When your problem doesn’t fit a template

Off-the-shelf products carry someone else’s assumptions. When your processes, data or constraints differ, the gap is filled with spreadsheets, manual steps and workarounds nobody documented. We map how work actually flows through your systems, then engineer the missing piece to fit exactly — and to be maintained by your own team.

Discipline 04

We don’t ask your business to adapt to the technology. We make the technology adapt to your business.

Legacy infrastructure. Fragmented systems. Unique workflows. Specialised data. Complex operational requirements. Every organisation has problems that cannot be solved by an off-the-shelf product.

We analyse your existing environment, understand how your systems actually work, and engineer a solution around your operational reality.

How we work

Custom Technology Solutions

The crown — the part that fits only you

  1. 01

    Discovery on the real system

We read the code, the database schemas and the logs, and sit with the people who do the work. The aim is an accurate map of the current system, including the parts nobody documented, before any design is proposed.

  2. 02

    Modernisation in steps

Legacy components are replaced one at a time behind a stable interface — the strangler-fig pattern. Old and new run in parallel, and their outputs are reconciled until the new path has earned trust.

  3. 03

    Integration without brittle coupling

Where systems cannot be changed, we connect them through adapters, change data capture or an event backbone. Idempotent handlers and dead-letter queues ensure that one system’s outage does not cascade into the next.

  4. 04

Rules in code, not in heads

Business rules that live in people’s memory or in spreadsheets are captured with domain experts, written as executable specifications and tested, so they survive both staff changes and audits.

  5. 05

    Built to be handed over

We use mainstream technologies, document decisions as we go and pair with your engineers throughout. A custom system should not make you dependent on the people who wrote it — including us.

What you receive

  • Current-state map of systems, data flows and manual steps
  • Target architecture with a phased migration plan
  • Integration adapters and versioned event contracts
  • Executable business-rule specifications and tests
  • Reconciliation reports for every parallel-run period
  • Handover documentation, runbooks and team training

Technology range

  • Java / Spring Boot
  • .NET
  • Go
  • Python
  • PostgreSQL
  • Oracle Database
  • Apache Kafka
  • Debezium
  • Apache Camel
  • Temporal
  • RabbitMQ
  • Kubernetes
  • Keycloak

We are technology-agnostic and work with the stack you already run.

What changes

What changes

  1. 01

    Fewer manual hand-offs

Work that used to move between systems by copy-paste, e-mail or spreadsheet now moves through tested integrations with a clear audit trail.

  2. 02

    Legacy risk retired gradually

Critical systems are modernised without a big-bang cut-over, so the business keeps running while its foundations are replaced.

  3. 03

    A system that fits

Instead of bending processes around a product’s limits, your teams work in a system shaped around the way they actually operate.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

01When is custom software the right choice over an off-the-shelf product?

When the product would force you to give up a process that is a genuine advantage, or when the cost of integration and workarounds outgrows the licence. If a standard product fits, we will say so — often the best answer is a product with a thin custom layer around it.

02Our legacy system has no documentation. Can you still work with it?

Yes — it is a common starting point. We reconstruct behaviour from the code, the database and production traffic, confirm it with the people who use the system and capture it as tests before anything is changed. Those tests become the documentation that was missing.

03How do you avoid disrupting operations during a migration?

By never switching everything at once. New components take over one capability at a time behind the existing interface, both systems run in parallel and their outputs are reconciled automatically. Every step has a tested way back.

04Who can maintain the system once you step back?

Your own engineers, if you choose. We build with mainstream, well-supported technologies and work alongside your team for the whole project, so knowledge transfers while the system is being built — not in a final handover meeting.

Let’s talk about your custom technology solutions needs.

Legacy modernisation, integration and specialised platforms, engineered around how your organisation actually works — not how a product assumes it does.
